President's Letter

Aloha and Welcome to Alaka’i Academy!
A few hours north east from where I lived in California, is Death Valley, the hottest, driest place on America. It is called “Death” Read More because it doesn’t rain there. Nothing grows. In the winter of 2004, it rained in Death Valley (7 inches in total) over a very short period. In the spring of 2005, there was a phenomenon. The whole floor of Death Valley was covered in flowers for a while. What this proved, is the Death Valley isn’t dead. It's just dormant.
Right underneath the valley, there are seeds of possibility waiting for the right conditions to come about. I believe the same goes for children. Children flourish when we create the right conditions. Alaka’i Academy goal is to create such conditions that children discover and recognize their potential, and feel confident enough to thrive in the sun.
Mahalo for reading,
